Obi Congratulates Adeleke, Hails Osun Voters for Defending Democratic Mandate

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, describing the victory as an important achievement for Nigeria’s democracy.

Obi said Adeleke’s renewed mandate reflected the confidence of the people in his administration, citing his commitment to their welfare, compassion and achievements during his first term in office.

In a statement, the former Anambra State governor particularly praised youths in Osun State for what he described as their courageous and peaceful defence of their votes during the keenly contested governorship election.

He said the conduct of the youths demonstrated the power of citizens to protect their democratic rights when they remain vigilant and committed to ensuring that their votes count.

According to him, the Osun election offers an important lesson that democracy becomes stronger when citizens understand their civic responsibilities and actively participate in the electoral process.

Obi stressed that every legitimate vote must be respected and every lawful electoral mandate protected from forces capable of undermining the will of the people.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, he urged Nigerians to remain informed, participate actively in the electoral process and protect their votes at polling units across the country.

He also called on political actors to put the interests of Nigerians above partisan considerations while promoting peace, unity and respect for the rule of law.

Obi maintained that elections should not be treated as battles of violence, but as opportunities for candidates and political parties to present their ideas, competence, character and capacity to deliver good governance.

He expressed optimism that the Osun experience would help restore citizens’ confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process and encourage greater participation in the country’s political development.

He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and committed to building a prosperous and people-centred nation through democratic means.
