2027: NNPP Confirms Omokanye As Kwara Governorship Candidate
Prince Adetoyese Omokanye has been ratified as the NNPP’s 2027 Kwara governorship candidate, unveiling an ambitious vision focused on economic growth, agriculture, youth empowerment, healthcare, infrastructure and accountable governance.

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has confirmed Prince Adetoyese Omokanye as its candidate for the 2027 Kwara State governorship election.
The confirmation was made during the party’s substitution primary and presentation of candidates for various elective positions in the state.
The exercise, which is being held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) State Secretariat on Offa Road, Ilorin, also featured the unveiling of the party’s candidates for the deputy governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly elections.
Omokanye’s candidacy was said to have been affirmed following the absence of litigation challenging his emergence and a unanimous decision by the party.
With the development, the NNPP has formally positioned Omokanye to lead its campaign for the governorship of Kwara in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking through his political agenda, Omokanye is presenting his candidacy around a broad development programme which he believes can reposition the state economically and socially.
A major part of the proposed agenda is job creation, with emphasis on supporting businesses, encouraging investment and expanding opportunities for young people.
Agriculture also features prominently in the programme. The candidate proposes greater investment in modern farming, agro-processing and agricultural value chains, with improved access to markets for farmers.
In the education sector, the agenda places emphasis on improving schools while expanding access to vocational skills, technology and innovation for young people.
Healthcare is another area highlighted in the programme, particularly the strengthening of primary healthcare facilities and improving access to affordable medical services across the state.
Omokanye’s infrastructure plans include better connectivity between communities through improved roads, water supply, electricity and other public facilities, with particular attention to rural areas.
The candidate also wants Kwara to take greater advantage of the digital economy by encouraging technology, innovation and businesses capable of creating new employment opportunities.
Accountability and transparency are also central to the political agenda being presented by the NNPP candidate.
Omokanye says public resources should be managed responsibly, while government should provide equal opportunities and remain responsive to the needs of citizens.
His programme further proposes a more inclusive approach to development, with attention to the interests of people across the three senatorial districts and the 16 local government areas of the state.
Women, youths, farmers, workers, entrepreneurs and other groups are identified as important stakeholders in the proposed development framework.
The NNPP candidate is seeking to build his campaign around the message of “A New Kwara,” projecting a state where economic opportunities are expanded, businesses can operate in a conducive environment, agriculture becomes more productive and government is accountable to citizens.
His emergence adds another dimension to the growing political contest ahead of the 2027 Kwara governorship election, as political parties prepare to mobilise their structures and candidates across the state.
