Standards

Editorial Policy

The principles and practices that shape every story we publish.

Accuracy

We publish what we can verify. Reporters check facts with primary sources and editors verify again before publication. When we get something wrong, we correct it publicly and quickly.

Fairness

Every person or organisation named in a critical story is offered a genuine opportunity to respond before publication.

Independence

Newsmonger is not owned or influenced by any political party, government or advertiser. Editorial decisions are made by editors, not by commercial partners.

Transparency

We show our work: sources are named wherever safe, methodologies are explained, and updates are timestamped.

Corrections

See our full Corrections Policy. Errors are labelled clearly at the top of the corrected article and logged in our public corrections record.

Fact checking

Investigations and long-form reporting go through a dedicated fact-check pass before publication. Breaking news is verified against at least two independent sources wherever possible.

Anonymous sources

We use anonymous sources only when the information is of clear public interest and cannot reasonably be obtained on the record. The source's motivation and reliability are disclosed to editors.

AI usage policy

Newsmonger uses AI tools to assist reporters with tasks such as transcription, translation, tagging and headline suggestions. AI never publishes articles automatically. Every published word is written or verified by a human journalist.

Sponsored content

Sponsored articles, partner posts and advertorials are clearly labelled and visually distinct from editorial content. Sponsors do not review or approve news coverage.

User-generated content

Comments, tips and reader-submitted media are moderated. Submissions may be edited for length, clarity, safety or legal compliance and may be removed at editorial discretion.

Photo and video verification

Third-party images and video are verified for provenance, date and location before publication. Manipulated or AI-generated visuals are disclosed in the caption.

Conflicts of interest

Journalists disclose personal, financial or political interests that could affect their coverage. Where a conflict cannot be avoided, the story is reassigned.
