Kwara Police Begin Immediate Statewide Enforcement of Traffic Laws

‎The Kwara State Police Command has announced the immediate enforcement of traffic laws across the state as part of efforts to improve road safety, reduce traffic violations, and restore order on public roads. ‎ ‎ ‎

Newsmonger reports that the directive was issued by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police. ‎ ‎ ‎

According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the enforcement exercise became necessary following the increasing disregard for traffic regulations by some motorists and other road users, a development that has contributed to road crashes, traffic congestion, obstruction of free vehicular movement, and the needless endangerment of lives and property. ‎ ‎

‎The Police Command stated that the operation is aimed at restoring sanity on the roads, ensuring compliance with existing traffic regulations, safeguarding lives, and promoting an orderly road transport system throughout Kwara State. ‎ ‎ ‎

The statement noted that the exercise is not intended to inconvenience law-abiding residents but to encourage responsible road use and strengthen respect for the rule of law. ‎ ‎ ‎

SP Ejire-Adeyemi disclosed that all officers deployed for the operation have been directed to perform their duties professionally, firmly, and with utmost respect for the rights and dignity of members of the public. ‎ ‎ ‎

She added that the Commissioner of Police has warned that any police officer found violating traffic regulations or engaging in any form of misconduct during the enforcement exercise would face appropriate disciplinary action in line with the laws and regulations governing the Nigeria Police Force. ‎ ‎

‎The Police spokesperson further urged motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle and motorcycle operators, as well as other road users, to obey traffic signs, observe speed limits, avoid dangerous driving, ensure that their vehicle documents are valid, and refrain from any conduct capable of endangering other road users. ‎ ‎ ‎

She appealed to residents of Kwara State to cooperate with officers and support the statewide enforcement exercise, assuring the public that the Command remains committed to ensuring safer roads, protecting lives and property, and promoting a secure environment where lawful road use is the responsibility of every citizen.
