NewsmongerThe official Coat of Arms of Nigeria featuring the motto Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress.Kwara State Government has approved an increase in professional allowances for nurses and allied health workers, alongside improved career progression for medical laboratory scientists in the state’s public service.
The decisions followed a review of the salaries, allowances and working conditions of healthcare professionals, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by Solomon Okanlawon, the Press Secretary in the Office of the Head of Service.
The review was initiated after Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq directed the Office of the Head of Service to set up a committee to examine the welfare and remuneration of medical and allied health personnel.
Following the submission of the committee’s recommendations, the government approved a new professional allowance structure for eligible nurses and allied health workers.
The measures also include arrangements to help qualified healthcare workers posted to rural communities receive their applicable rural allowances.
In another key decision, medical laboratory scientists currently on Grade Level 09 have been approved for advancement to Grade Level 10. The government said the promotion would take effect from the dates of their respective appointments to preserve their seniority in service.
The Chairman of the Kwara State Civil Service Commission has been directed to implement the approved career advancement, while the Commissioner for Finance is expected to make the necessary arrangements for the implementation of the new allowances.
The state government said the decisions were aimed at improving workers’ welfare, retaining skilled health professionals and strengthening healthcare delivery across Kwara State.
However, the government did not disclose the specific amounts of the revised allowances or state when the new payment structure would take effect.
