KWIRS has defended its staff remuneration structure, saying salary figures circulating on social media do not reflect the full range of employee benefits.

NewsmongerOfficial logo of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS).Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) has defended its staff remuneration system amid public discussions over salary figures circulating on social media, describing the information as incomplete and potentially misleading.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, the Service said some of the figures being shared did not reflect the full compensation package of its employees, urging the public to rely on verified information from official sources.
KWIRS explained that staff benefits go beyond monthly salaries to include annual and performance-related bonuses, festive payments, economic support measures and annual leave allowances.
According to the agency, some of these benefits are paid periodically and may depend on revenue performance, staff performance and prevailing economic conditions.
The management also expressed concern over what it described as attempts to use unverified internal administrative communications for political purposes, warning that such actions could create unnecessary tension and undermine public confidence in the institution.
It stressed that KWIRS operates as a professional and politically neutral government agency responsible for generating revenue to support the development of Kwara State.
On staff welfare, the Service said it remained committed to improving employee motivation, professional growth and working conditions within approved government resources and administrative guidelines.
The agency further cited the high number of recruitment requests it receives as an indication of its management's commitment to staff welfare.
KWIRS called on taxpayers, stakeholders and members of the public to verify information before sharing it and avoid spreading claims that could disrupt institutional harmony.
It reaffirmed its commitment to revenue mobilisation and the economic growth and sustainable development of Kwara State.
The statement was signed by the management of the Kwara Internal Revenue Service.
