Questions remain unanswered following the discovery of a Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) officer’s body along Emir’s Road, near Obo Road in Ilorin, since Monday.

The Kwara State Ministry of Environment confirmed the deceased was a staff member of the correctional service, but details surrounding the incident, including the officer’s identity and the circumstances of his death, have yet to be made public.

The discovery attracted attention after an urgent public notice circulated online, reporting that an unidentified body had been found along the road and calling for immediate intervention by the relevant environmental, emergency and security agencies.

The notice stressed the need for a prompt response, proper handling of the body and measures to protect public safety.

Following the alert, officials of the Kwara State Ministry of Environment supervised the removal of the body before handing it over to the Nigerian Correctional Service.

The ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Shakirat Muritala, confirmed the development in a telephone conversation with National Pilot.

Muritala explained that the ministry only supervised the removal and transfer of the body, adding that the deceased was an officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Kwara State.

She did not provide further information about the officer or explain how the body was found by the roadside.

Further enquiries at the correctional service command on Tuesday reportedly confirmed the incident, although officials were unwilling to provide additional details.
