Flying Eagles Crash Out of 2027 U-20 World Cup Race After 4-1 Loss to Burkina Faso
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have crashed out of the 2027 U-20 World Cup race after losing 4-1 to Burkina Faso in the WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship final.

NewsmongerFlying Eagles against Burkina FasoNigeria’s Flying Eagles have been eliminated from the race for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup after suffering a heavy 4-1 defeat to Burkina Faso in the final of the 2026 WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship.
The defeat at the Stade Charles Konan Banny in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, also ended Nigeria’s hopes of qualifying for the 2027 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Burkina Faso took control early, scoring three goals within the opening 15 minutes and leaving Nigeria with little chance of recovery.
The Flying Eagles improved after the break but could only manage a consolation goal, while Burkina Faso added another to complete a convincing victory.
The result was a repeat of Nigeria’s group-stage defeat to Burkina Faso, who had earlier beaten the Flying Eagles 2-0.
Nigeria reached the final after edging Côte d’Ivoire 4-3 on penalties following a 2-2 draw, while Burkina Faso defeated Niger 2-0 in the semi-final.
The victory handed Burkina Faso the WAFU Zone B title and the region’s ticket to the 2027 U-20 AFCON, which will serve as the qualifying tournament for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Nigeria, seven-time U-20 AFCON champions, will therefore miss both competitions.
