Afenifere Hails Osun Election, Says Poll Passed Credibility Test

Pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has commended the conduct of the Osun State governorship election, describing the exercise as a clear reflection of the people’s will.

The group said the election demonstrated that Nigerians can defend their democratic rights when given the opportunity to freely choose their leaders.

In a statement issued in Akure by its Secretary-General, Chief Sola Ebiseni, Afenifere praised the Independent National Electoral Commission for what it described as a credible handling of the poll.

The organisation also applauded Osun voters for their strong participation, noting that the number of voters in the state crossed the one-million mark.

Afenifere said the determination of voters to protect their votes was particularly encouraging, describing it as part of the Yoruba people's long-standing culture of defending their political rights.

The group, however, said the progress recorded in Osun should not lead to complacency, stressing that Nigeria still has work to do before elections can be conducted without widespread concerns over their credibility.

It said attention would now shift to the 2027 general elections, urging stakeholders to build on the lessons from Osun and strengthen public confidence in the electoral system.

Afenifere also congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election, saying the renewed mandate comes with greater expectations from the people of Osun State.
