KWARTMA Dismisses Personnel, Demotes Two Others Over Extortion

The Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) has dismissed one personnel and demoted two others over alleged extortion of motorists during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise at Geri Alimi Roundabout, Ilorin.

The disciplinary action followed a viral video showing three KWARTMA personnel allegedly collecting money from motorists during the exercise on June 27, 2026.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Authority’s Head of Media and Public Relations, Olawuyi Gani Olaleken, KWARTMA said the affected personnel were investigated and subsequently appeared before the Senior Staff Management Committee for disciplinary proceedings.

The three officers were found culpable and sanctioned, with the penalties taking effect from July 9, 2026.

According to the statement, KWARTMA Chief Executive Officer, Abdullahi Suleiman Oba, said the action reflects the Authority’s zero tolerance for extortion, bribery, corruption and other forms of misconduct.

Oba warned that personnel found violating professional and ethical standards would face appropriate disciplinary measures, stressing the need for integrity, discipline and accountability in the discharge of their duties.

KWARTMA also reaffirmed its commitment to professional traffic management and quality service to residents of Kwara State.
