Tinubu Appoints Enitan as New Head of Nigeria’s Civil Service ‎

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the next Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, HCSF. ‎ ‎

Enitan will assume office on August 27, 2026, following the retirement of the incumbent, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is set to leave the federal civil service after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60. ‎ ‎

The appointment was disclosed on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. ‎ ‎

An indigene of Osun State, Enitan is currently the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education and is the longest-serving Permanent Secretary in the federal civil service.

Born on December 12, 1966, Enitan attended Ajibode Grammar School, Ibadan, and the College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife. He obtained a B.Sc. in Finance and Banking from the University of Lagos in 1988 and later earned an M.Sc. in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Lafia, in 2015. ‎

‎He has held the Permanent Secretary position for seven years and seven months, with previous postings to the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President. ‎

‎With his extensive experience across key government institutions, Enitan is expected to bring strong administrative knowledge to the leadership of the civil service. ‎ ‎

President Tinubu praised Walson-Jack for her contributions to the federal civil service, particularly the reforms and innovations introduced during her tenure, while wishing her a rewarding post-retirement life. ‎ ‎

The President charged Enitan to sustain and advance ongoing reforms, improve efficiency and professionalism, and strengthen accountability and merit within the civil service. ‎

‎He also urged the incoming HCSF to ensure that the federal civil service becomes more responsive to citizens and better positioned to deliver the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
