Kwara State Police Command has commenced Operation VELVET, a continuous traffic enforcement initiative aimed at ensuring compliance with road traffic laws and improving safety across the state. ‎

‎According to the statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the operation began on Tuesday, following directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu and under the leadership of the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi. ‎ ‎

According to the Command, Operation VELVET is designed to promote responsible driving, reduce traffic-related violations and protect the lives and property of motorists, passengers, pedestrians and other road users. ‎ ‎

The police said the exercise would focus particularly on ensuring that motorists comply with existing traffic regulations and that vehicles operating on Kwara roads have valid and legally required documents. ‎ ‎

Motorists have therefore been advised to ensure that their vehicles are properly registered and that all necessary documents are valid before embarking on journeys. ‎ ‎

The Command warned that motorists found violating traffic laws or driving vehicles without the required legal documentation would face appropriate sanctions in line with existing laws and due process. ‎ ‎

The Commissioner of Police also appealed to motorists and other road users to cooperate with police personnel deployed for the exercise, obey traffic regulations and adopt responsible driving habits. ‎ ‎

CP Adekimi assured residents that the Command would continue to take measures aimed at making roads safer while protecting lives and property and maintaining peace and public order across Kwara State.
