Woro Kidnap Victims Arrive in Ilorin After Months in Captivity

Victims abducted during the deadly attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have arrived in Ilorin following their rescue after months in captivity.

The victims arrived in the state capital late Thursday night after being rescued through coordinated military and security operations.

They were transported from Niger State to the Nigerian Army’s 2 Division, Sobi Barracks, Ilorin, where they were received before being moved to an undisclosed location for the night.

Some of the rescued victims were taken to hospital for medical attention.

The victims were among residents abducted when armed attackers invaded Woro earlier this year, killing more than 150 people and taking several others into the surrounding forests.

The attack led to heightened security operations in Kwara and neighbouring areas as security agencies intensified efforts to locate and rescue the abductees.

The Federal Government has confirmed the rescue of 308 Nigerians abducted in separate attacks in Kwara and Niger states. Of the figure, 163 were abducted from Woro, while 145 were from Niger State.

The victims were rescued from a location within the Kainji Lake National Park forest.

The operation involved the military, police, Department of State Services, National Counter-Terrorism Centre and other intelligence and security agencies.

The rescued victims are expected to be formally handed over to the Kwara State Government, while authorities continue the process of verification and documentation.

They are also expected to receive medical, psychological and welfare support to aid their recovery after their prolonged stay in captivity.
