NewsmongerIfelodun LG LogoThe Ifelodun Local Government Council in Kwara State has commenced the distribution of tractors to farmers across its nine districts at subsidised rates.
The initiative is aimed at reducing the cost of land preparation, easing dependence on manual labour and improving agricultural production in the local government area.
According to a statement issued to newsmen in Ilorin by the Special Assistant on Media and Communication to the Executive Chairman, Kazeem Ayuba, the intervention is part of the agricultural development agenda of the council chairman, Abdulrasheed Femi Yusuf.
The council has refurbished four previously non-functional tractors and added two new ones to strengthen mechanised farming across Ifelodun.
The tractors have been deployed to Share, Oro-Ago, Ile-Ire, Oke-Ode, Idofian, Omupo, Agunjin, Ora and Igbaja districts.
The district-based arrangement is expected to make farm machinery more accessible to farmers at the grassroots while ensuring wider coverage across the local government.
The council said the subsidised rates would help reduce the financial burden on farmers, encourage the cultivation of more farmland and boost food production and household income.
The chairman has however urged beneficiaries to use the equipment responsibly and ensure proper maintenance to sustain the programme and maximise its benefits.
